Two colorimetric methods are described for the determination of flufenamic and mefenamic acids in their dosage forms. In method A the absorption of the chloroforn soluble complex, formed by the reaction of the drug with ferric ions at pH 2, is measured at max. of 530 nm. In method B ferric thiocyanate, obtained by the decomposition of the complex is determined colorimetrically at 480 nm. Methods, A and B are senstive in the range of 0.08-0.8 mg/ml and 0.04-0.4 mg/ml, and Beers law is obeyed in the range of 0.08-0.8 mg/ml and 0/04-0.4 mg/ml, respectively. Both methods are applied for the determination of flufenamic or mefenamic acid either in pure form or in pharmaceutical dosage forms.
