The extent of a absorption of grissofulvin (500 mg) from oil-in-water (O/W), water-in-oil-in-water (w/o/w)emulsions and tablet dosage forms were determined and compared following oral administration of each of the dosage forms, in a crossover fashion, to 8 healthy volunteers. The absorption characteristics were assessed by measuring the urinary excretion of the major metabolite of griseofulvin (6-desmethylgriseosulvin). From these results, it is suggested that the administration of griseofulvin in the W/O/W emulsion may lead to the enhancement of therapeutic efficacy of the drug in man.
