The reaction between benzil and ammonium acetate with appropriate aldehyde(s) in glacial acetic acid readily gives 2-(4-substitutedphenyl)- 4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazole (1-10). The spectra (IR, 1H and 13C NMR and MS) and analytical data have supported their structures. Toxicity of 1-10 has been determined. Analgesic, antiinflammatoy, antiepileptic and locomotor activities of the compounds 1-10 have been evaluated by standard methods. |
