Antimicrobial studies of lowsone and six derivatives along with their chelates with calsium and zinc are carried out by disc assay method. All the chelates have ML2 2H2O composition and possibly trans-octahedral structure. Due to substituent at C-3 the antibacterial activity decreases and the antifungal activity increases. Chelate-formation lowers antimicrobial activity.
