Amodiaquine hydrochloride and chloroquine phosphate form insoluble complexes with ammonium molybdate. Spectrophotometric estimation of the molybdenum content of these complexes by conversion of the bound molyybdenum into molybdenum thiocyanate followed by reduction with acetone enables the determination of the two antimalarial drugs in very low concentrations. The method is applicable to the pure drugs as well as their formulations.
