Methyl, ethyl, and newly synthesized n-propyl, isopropyl, n- butyl, isobutyl, n-pentyl and isopentyl sinapates were prepared and their 13 C NMR and mass spectral data reported. Carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema model was used to evaluate the anti-inflammatory action of sinapic acid and its various esters. Isopentyle sinapate was found to be the most patent and methyl sinapate was noted to be the least effective among the tested compounds.
