A senstive spectrophotometric method for the estimation of sulphadoxine was developed based on reaction with 4-dimethylaminocinnamaldehyde in orthophosphoric acid medium to form a stable and senstive choromogen. The red coloured chromogen obeys Beer's law over the concentration range of 0.4 to 4 mcg/ml. Pyrimrthamine in combined dosage forms which is present along with sulphadoxine did not interfere in the proposed method.
