The stability of fast and slow release compressed propanolol HCL suppositories was evaluated at room temprature (RT) and at accelerated temprature 37 degree & 45 degree C for 8 weeks. There was no degradation of the drug at 25 degree C, and 37 degree C, with only 6-7 percent degradation of the drug at 45 degree C by the end of 8 weeks. After 8 weeks of storage, slight changes in the in-vitro release of the drug from conventional suppositories and about 5-6 percent slowening from slow release suppositories was observed at 45 degree C with no changes at other temprature studied. No change in the hardness of the suppositories was observed after storing for 8 weeks at RT and elevated temperatures.Accelerated stability data of 8 weeks revealed that the compressed propranolol HCI suppositories were physically and chemically stable.
